Appraisal Survey

This is the least comprehensive of the surveys. During an appraisal, it is the surveyor's job to determine the overall condition of the vessel, the extent of her equipment and the serviceability of the vessel.

The general maintenance to which the vessel has been subjected will make a good deal of difference in the vessel's value, as will her overall cosmetic condition.

This type of survey is generally used for a bank loan when insurance is not an issue, for other-than-cash non-profit donation tax purposes, for probate court or during a divorce. It has been known to be used when a boat that is owned by more than one individual is appraised so the no-longer-best-friend owners can get out of their deal with equality.
